I had to go through physical therapy after badly breaking my wrist and having surgery to screw it all together again. Part of the treatment involved heat and wax, similar to what the doctor mentions. Later they had me put my hands in what felt like sawdust, that was heated and swirling around. I was instructed to squeeze this stuff for around a half hour at a time. It seemed to help, but after awhile I figured I could get similar results at home in very warm water while squeezing a ball.

Hey Chuch, you might try asking around about this... There's a homeopathic guy in the LA area that Chick Corea and Billy Sheehan went to when they had carpal tunnel issues.I remember a buddy told me about him when I lived there and was having some problems myself. Unfortunalely, his name escapes me...but maybe with a little investigating, you can find him. He's evidently very, very good.
Best of luck.

Interesting, & very relevant topic.
I wonder if the prob is technq related, possibly, or no?

Brad, just how exactly did you break your wrist?
[Because whatever it was, I don't want to replicate the scenario...]
I had a motorcycle accident back a good many yrs ago - a guy w no DL, insurance, or real address, ran a stop sign & pulled out in front of me, I'd just caught 2nd...had to drop the bike or end up as a permanent[?!] hood ornament / human-windsheild wiper...landed on my shoulder, awa Strawberries City...I still feel a small minor ache every N&T, esp in humid, hot weather; but I can still play, thank God....Don't even get me started...

Hey Chuch,
Prayers out for a speedy recovery from this thing.
Is it PC related?
Best,
Andy

Chuch,
I know how it feels to be in
this position, though I am not
sure if it was exactly the same
circumstances.
I do support your investigating
into the alternatives before any
major surgery. Accupuncture is a
real possibility for you.
I do not support selling your
drums or giving them up. Let's
look into this.
Hopes and prayers,

Yeah, chuch.
Listen to Pete C. He recovered / overcame a rather intense, startling situation, if my mem serves me correctly.
Right on, make it, "PC" related... .

GAm, and Peter thanks again. yeah, actually ebay'ing the drums was totally a joke. i'd give'm to either my son or daughter before doing that!
as for alternatives, yeah - i'm a believer in that. i've had injuries playing football in highschool where i'd limp in one moment and walk out after the treatment.
in general i'm in good spirits. actually spending my time hangin w/ friends and family and working on the back yard. so many other interests, ya know?
thanks for your well wishes.

Hey Chuch....
Not sure if this will help. But since I'm a mechanic, I'm always trashing my hands, skin, flesh, and joints. Not to mention being involved with martial arts and kickboxing nearly all my life.
I went thru a phase where my fingers and big toes were "locking". Had to force them to move and then I'd hear a big click/snap. No pain, just the locking and the noise. Went to Kaiser (might as well have gone to the DMV instead) and they really had no explanation for it (probably more like they didn't want to do anything unless my intestines were hanging out my skin). But they did the same thing, the cortezone shots. But then I did some reading about the cortezone and you gotta watch out with that, it'll cause bone loss. Anyway.... back then, what I found was excercising (getting the blood flowing thru my body for more than 1 hour) and warming up before playing really helped. I get it every once in a great while now, but then again haven't done ANY excercising going on 2 years now.
I guess it's just part of getting old. The joints change thru wear and calcium buildup (early arthritis). But if you continue to stay healthy and active, your joints will re-adjust to becoming an old geezer
See you tonight buddy!!

good point, john. i actually feel it more after i set up my kit. meaning after i'm tweaking all the wing nuts on my stands and toms, my fingers are like really sore. so when i start playing, my hand gets numb sometimes.
warming up is something i should do more often. i work out 5 days a week. just maintenance excercise. machines, treadmill (2miles 3 days).
i've been on a stricter diet since my fatty liver diagnosis along with high cholesterol. you're right bud. aint getting any younger.
